Pure Timbre™ Snare Shells - Overstocks

These Pure Timbre™ solid snare shells are built for a variety of reasons. Some are seconds from our main customers' orders and those are offered at a $100 discount. The rest are unique prototypes, new species, or shells built on spec but not yet ordered. Pure Timbre™ snare drum shells are a premium musical instrument product and represent the thickest solid wood snare drum shells offered in the world (by a wide margin). The wall thickness is usually 1/2" of solid or thicker. The bearing edges are usually 7/8" thick. All bearing edges are cut at 45 degrees. Snare beds are cut for $30 extra. When you build with Pure Timbre™ snare shells, keep in mind that you will be building a snare shell that would be worth well in excess of $1,000, sometimes several thousand, so choose the best hardware you can. If you have questions about these shells, please email Chris Mroz: oz@puretimber.com .

Customer Notes:

Maple / Black Locust snare shell. Two available - 6 x 14 and 6 x 13. Black Locust is a dense North American hardwood. It is uncommon in the lumber market. Pure Timber knows most of the small stands of locust in the country and uses it both for tonewoods and for marine applications because it is extremely decay resistant. Black Locust is yellow-brown in color with strongly accented grain. The bearing edges are about 7/8" thick and the body is 1/2" thick. Pure Timber owner Chris Mroz has a 6 x 14 Maple/Black Locust snare drum for his personal instrument.

Maple / Lacy Sycamore (American Lacewood) solid snare shell. American Lacewood is from the Sycamore tree. To produce the lace, the log must be quarter sawn to expose the rays. The effect of the lace varies from slight to very pronounced, depending on the angle of the saw relative to the grain. Lacy Sycamore provides a look that we call a domestic exotic. In other words, it looks like it came from an exotic tropical rainforest, but it is pure American sustainable harvest hardwood.
