Cold-Bend™ solid bendable tonewood is available dimensioned for guitar builders. Cold-Bend™ hardwood allows the luthier to build thicker, solid sided guitars, (without heat), while avoiding the very difficult fabrication issues in very high end guitar building with thicker or double walls. The thicker sides are expected to provide better percussive and projection properties for finger tapping styles of playing, and enhance the orchestral qualities obtained.
Our Cold-Bend™ tonewoods do not require heat or steam to bend. They are simply unwrapped, sawn to shape, sanded, and bent cold on your form, by hand. Clamps and cauls are used to assist bending, and to hold the parts while setting the shape (drying). Cold-Bend™ tonewoods are available in Black Walnut, Black Cherry, Hard Sugar Maple, Sassafras, Hard Rock Elm, White Ash, Hickory, Black Locust, Red Oak, White Oak and Beech. Size is 0.150 x 34" x 5", and sold in book matched pairs. You may specify other thickness, if desired, from .100 to .200, in the order notes. Luthier tonewoods offered here are the highest grade of the compressed hardwoods offered.
Also offered are solid linings in fours, and purflings in sixes (same price). Each lining is 1/4" x 1/2" x 36", and purflings are 1/4" x 1/4" x 36". Other sizes available, just specify needs in order notes. These pieces may also be used for inlays and other edging or trim or may be ordered separately for small project needs.
