For unique stairways, start with Fluted™ Beams or Columns. Pure Timber collaborates with master stair builders to bring you a one of a kind, functional art piece. The open stairway concept includes straight stairways set on Fluted™ Beams (at right) and circular stairways built around Fluted™ Columns. The Long Fluted™ Beams shown are 20 feet in length and measure ~8" x 8" in cross section. The Beams are Fluted™ with solid Ash (also offered in Oak, Elm, Maple, Cherry and Walnut) bent to extreme radii and set into the beam flanges. The flanges are solid, or Glulam, veneered with straight grain Douglas Fir (other species available). The treads shown are solid Douglas Fir. Brackets shown are custom made from steel.
We do not recommend DIY stair builders or mill workers employ compressed wood for projects unless there is a willingness on the part of the craftsman to ramp up gradually in the learning curve involved.
